The Saddle Mountain dig is about 20 miles south of Vantage near Mattawa, WA.

President's Message

We will camp at the Buckshot Recreational Area.
A Discover Pass is required.
2 miles south of Mattawa on SR 243, west to the end of Rd 26 SW.
It is a free dry camping site with no potable water or electricity.
There is a brick outhouse.

The public is invited to attend. Membership is required to participate in these activities.
We will be digging for petrified wood, picture wood, limb sections and, possibly, common opal.

Saturday evening at 5:00pm a potluck dinner will be served with hot dogs and hamburgers furnished by the Club.
Dinner will be followed by a short general meeting and donated door prizes.

Sunday morning at 8am a pancake and sausage breakfast is furnished by the Club (weather permitting).

Tailgating and rock swapping is highly encouraged.

Fall Dig ^{Site Map}

The club camps at the Teanaway Community Campground.
A Discover Pass is required.

Drive east from Cle Elum, WA on State Road 970 to the Teanaway River Road (turn left off 970). Drive approximately 7.2 miles, turn left on W Fork. Drive .7 (tenths) of a mile to the campground (on the left).

It is a dry camp with outhouses, but no potable water or electricity.

The public is invited to attend. Membership is required to participate in the activities.
We will dig for agates, crystal nodules and jadeite.
There will be a Saturday evening potluck dinner at 5:00PM. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided by the Club.
Dinner will be followed by the general membership meeting to elect club officers followed by donated door prizes.

Sunday morning at 8 is a pancake and sausage breakfast furnished by the Club (weather permitting).

Tailgating and rock swapping is encouraged.

Note: Some of the parking places at the dig sites require a forest services permit, which can be purchased at the trailheads for around $5 a day.

Spring Dig Directions

The Pow-Wow camps at the Priest Rapids State Wildlife Area.
A Washington State Discover Pass is required.

From I-90 take WA-26 for a short distance then take WA-243.
Drive about 18 miles to Road 26 SW, turn right.
Follow Road 26 SW. for about 1.7 miles. Road 26 SW will change to a gravel road when you cross Road “U” SW.
The public is invited to attend. Membership is required

The Pow-Wow headquarters will be at Buckshot Recreational Area (Formerly Buckshot Boat Launch) .
There is a small area for tents and about 15 trailers, first come first use bases.
Camping is free. It is a dry camp with outhouses, but no potable water or electricity.

The club cost is $7.50 per person or $15.00 for family for membership. See Kim Post at camp.

For our spring dig, we have field trips to Saddle Mountain. We dig for different types of petrified wood. The roads are difficult to travel on, but yield great petrified wood.

We hold our Saturday dinner at 5pm – potluck, and a Sunday pancake breakfast.

I hope that many will come to our dig this year, come and see what we find, it will be fun for all Rockhounds.

September 9th & 10th 2023
Teanaway Community Campground Information

For our Teanaway dig on September 9th & 10th, we have field trips to Red Top. The lower beds are difficult to get to, but yield great agates, geodes and I have found Tubular agate. The Field trip dig group leaves camp at 8:00 am sharp on Saturday and 9:00 am on Sunday. We hold our general elections after our potluck dinner on Saturday. I hope that many will come to our dig this year, come and see what we find, it will be fun for all Rockhounds.

Bring a shovel for digging and walking stick, 2lb bucket or gunny sack, short pick, small shovel, maybe a rock hammer. Lots of water to drink.
